During pregnancy, a woman’s body changed a lot to accommodate a baby inside. After birth, the body changes again like having a breast full of milk. While some mom’s struggle with breastfeeding, celebrity mom, Karel Marquez – Farinas focuses on just that.
Karel and businessman husband, Sean Farinas welcomed their baby boy, Kobe Frederico on June 19. Apparently, Karel gave birth via emergency caesarian section yet she’s head on breastfeeding baby Kobe. Month after – July 18, Karel shared a tip for breastfeeding moms like her. She expresses milk while breastfeeding Kobe simultaneously. At night, she collects ‘letdown’ and it helps her get more sleep even if she wakes up every two hours to feed her son. She says, “Not all have refrigerators in their room (like me), so I just got this milk container and bag with ice packs, so all my ‘letdowns’ during the night will still be good/preserved. Then, I freeze it in the morning right away when I am not feeling like a zombie anymore.” She adds, “What I like about this is that it’s still so cold in the morning. Paraparaan to stash milk.”
According to smart parenting, “Letdown is the milk that Karel collects on one breast while nursing Kobe on the other.” It’s a good way to save time expressing milk and to save breastmilk. She simply adds it to Kobe’s milk stash so that he can feed even when she’s out.
Proper way of storing breast milk is to store it in the freezer as soon as possible but Karel found a way to store breastmilk even when she’s too groggy and sleepy to run to the fridge. For some moms, they use insulated bags to store their milk so that it won’t easily spoil. Working moms use this technique so that they can express milk while at work and be able to transport it back home.
She’s already a mom of three, yet she admits that she still finds it difficult to be able to provide Kobe with breastmilk. According to her, “It is so not easy to breastfeed for some, like me. It is very challenging.” This is the reason why she shares tips on breastfeeding that works for her. She adds, “I salute you working moms who give your little ones liquid gold. I am still figuring out how to do it, especially when I go to work full time soon!”
Karel posted a photo of her breastfeeding Kobe and collecting ‘letdowns’ on her other breast and captioned it as, “when you know you are tired but will never get tired at the same time because of this kind of unconditional love. ‘tired but happy’ ang peg, all my love for him!” She also tries to catch up on her sleep, “Now I shall try to get some shut eye at sasabayan ko na din si kobe kapag nakatulog na din siya after feeding.” She also tagged her post as #KarelsBreastfeedingStories.
Breastfeeding is not easy, especially with a cesarean delivery like Karel’s. You have to admit she’s one tough mom, with her body healing from a major surgery, she’s still hands on in taking care of her child. With a plan of working soon, she still finds a way to be able to breastfeed her baby.
The choice to breastfeed may not be open to some, but giving breastmilk to your child has its benefits like keeping your baby healthy and supplies necessary nutrients.
Kobe is Karel’s third child. However, he is her first child to husband Sean. She has two children, Keiley and Kyler, from a previous relationship. Sean stands as father figure to both. Karel and Sean got married in December 2016 and suffered a miscarriage in July 2017.
