This generation has truly experience a lot of things in an instant. The world, as it moves forward, has made things easier, and fast. Food has innovated to instant noodles, fast food and food with preservatives. Our smartphones enable us to build relationships fast transportation and even online buying. Students read from tablets or learn from online courses. Everything seems achievable in a short period of time. It’s no wonder we all expect things to be easy and fast too.
We feel sad if we encounter failures and mistakes, and somehow don’t know how to deal with them. This could be why depression has become a widespread disease. We feel upset when things seems too slow to get. This is why most people hate filing goverment papers and renewing ID’s.
What we need to have is a beginner’s mindset in every part of our day. Learning is a continuous process and takes time to master. Now we share a quote from Wendy Flynn.
“Allow yourself to be a beginner. No one starts off being great.”
HAVE THE COURAGE TO START FROM THE BEGINNING
Being a beginner is not a weakness or a disappointment. Everyone starts at the beginning and even though starting something is hard, those hardships can make you learn and give you experiences you need to grow. Take small steps forward and drop all your expectations. Ignore the expectations of others too, and just focus on your goal.
“Don’t give up. The beginning is always the hardest.”
If failures come your way, do not let yourself give up and lose interest. Instead, use them as a stepping stone. Take in everything with curiosity and wonder. Being a beginner and starting a big step in your life can be scary, but once you have the courage to overcome it, everything will definitely not fall into place. Drop your ideals and continue on forward.
EVERYTHING STARTS AT THE FIRST STEP
Even stairs have the first step whether it is oddly designed, the first step is always there. Every part of our childhood was full of beginnings. Although we definitely got bruised and upset along the way, as a child we brushed it off, smiled and continued on. This is what we need to be doing. Every part of our life is still full of beginnings. Having a beginner’s mindset will help us see life in a different light.
If we drop our prejudgement and fantasies, we allow ourselves to truly learn. We procastinate less because we don’t think how hard a project could be, but instead become curious and start ahead. If we have a beginner’s mindset, we worry less of what will happen. Instead we get curious and start the day head strong. You will also feel less ashamed or embarrassed because you know full well being a beginner is having a lot of mistakes and the good part is, you know you can correct them.
According to Ralph Smart,
“Don’t compare your chapter 1 to someone else’s chapter 20. Comparison is one of the biggest causes of unhappiness. Respect your own journey.”
With the help of social media we easily see other people’s achivements, success and fame. It so easy to compare ourselves to them and think that the world is simply unfair. What’s worse is that we tend to try to do shortcuts that often times fail. It’s true that we may have the desire to be like them but what we often forget is that they also had failures and mistakes along the way that we did not see.
So don’t be hard on yourself and focus on your own journey. You have your own strengths that they do not have. It could be a supportive family, or a doting daughter, or a friend that motivates you everyday. Don’t rush yourself to success. Focus on your own path and make your own unique story of success.
